Home made soap & essential oil distilling, a rare and beautiful trade

I love teaching so very much and I love teaching soap making & essential oil distillation.

Soap making is a fascinating alchemy. A simple one, with only three ingredients needed: water, caustic soda, oil/fat.

Caustic soda sounds very frightening, but it once originated from wood ash. In fact soap was discovered during cooking, as we roasted meat on an open fire.

Essential oil distillation with a gorgeous copper pot, lavender, water and heat.

The fat from the animal combined with wood ash in the fire to produce this silky new substance that we now call soap.

Today caustic soda is no longer made from wood ash, and the resulting soap made from it is far better quality than the one being made 3000 BC.

And the process of making soap is really beautiful. Like making a cake, but well, not edible 🙂

Join me at my next class as I love sharing my knowledge so very much. See the workshop tab on my website menu.

Arrivederci, cari amici.
